Boys in grades 4-8 who live in the Skyline High School boundary.
Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season will be held during over two days mid-September. Players are expected to attend both days of tryouts. There is a $20 fee to tryout.
All players must attend at least one of the scheduled tryout dates, even those who have previously played on a Skyline Boys Select Basketball team. We strongly encourage attending both days to receive the most accurate skills evaluation.
No. Tryouts are closed to everyone except coaches, evaluators and players.
Tryouts are conducted by Skyline Boys Select Basketball coaches and board members, as well as independent evaluators. Coaches/evaluators use a variety of drills and scrimmages to evaluate the players and select the teams.
Coaches/evaluators are looking for players with strong fundamental skills, as well as those who listen, hustle, work hard, have a positive attitude and are good teammates.
Generally, there are 10-12 players on a team. We like to have two teams per grade level if possible.
Fees for the 2022-23 season are $650 for parent-coached teams and $850 for teams with paid (non-parent) coaches. Fees cover coaching costs, gym fees, league and tournament fees, some player swag, coach shirts, and other operating costs. Uniforms (approximately $95) and travel costs are additional. Please note: Returning players who played in 2021-22 will not be required to purchase a new uniform for the 2022-23 season as we are not changing uniforms.
Player positions, starting lineups and playing time decisions are made by the coaching staff and are based on a player's skill level, effort, attitude, work ethic, coachability, attendance and specific game situations. Playing time is not guaranteed and fluctuates from game-to-game.
Each player will receive a number at tryouts. Team selections will be posted on our website by number within 48 hours after tryouts are completed. If your son is offered a spot on a team, you will have 24 hours to register him and pay or his spot will be offered to another player.
Shortly after tryouts, all players and at least one parent are expected to attend a kickoff meeting, where we discuss expectations for the season, introduce coaches and board members, and conduct uniform fitting.
Practices begin in October. We try to schedule each team for two practices per week, depending on gym availability. Practice days/times will vary from week to week based on the gym space the Issaquah School District allocates us.
Teams practice in school gyms in the Skyline High School area. Space is allocated by the Issaquah School District.
Regular season games typically begin the first weekend in December and end the last weekend in February. Games are held on Saturdays and Sundays. League championship tournaments are held in early March and the season culminates with the State tournament in Spokane the third weekend in March for teams that qualify.
There are tournaments available to participate in starting in November. Tournaments are also held over winter break, MLK weekend and President's Day weekend. Each team decides which tournaments they want to play in.
Schedules are typically released by the tournament host by Wednesday of tournament week. Your coach or team manager is responsible for communicating tournament details via the Team Snap app.
Each team will have a parent who serves as team manager who, along with your coach, will share information with you throughout the season. Team Snap is the primary communication tool. Messages are sent through Team Snap and all practices and games are listed in the Team Snap app.
Each team needs a team manager and at home games, parents serve as scorekeeper and scoreboard operator. If we host an end-of-season tournament, we expect parents to fill a variety of roles such as admissions, concessions, scorekeeper, etc. If your company offers money when you volunteer your time, we greatly appreciate that as well.
No refunds will be issued once a player has accepted a spot on a team roster by registering.
Yes, we recommend each player have their own ball. In 4th through 6th grade, boys use a 28.5" ball and in 7th and 8th grade, boys use a 29.5" ball.
